The Studio Theatre

The Studio Theatre, home to Sacramento's longest-running musical review SIX WOMEN WITH BRAIN DEATH, became Sacramento's newest Equity theatre company this year, joining the B Street Theatre, California Musical Theatre, Capital Stage and the Sacramento Theatre Company.

The first production under our new professional status was the regional premiere of Nathan Sander's THE SUGAR BEAN SISTERS.

Lauren Charlesworth as The Reptile Woman with one of her "babies" in The Sugar Bean Sisters.

Nisa Davis Hayden as Robinelle meets her fate after she dies from spontaneous human combustion in The Sugar Bean Sisters at The Studio Theatre.

This offbeat story of romance, murder and alien abduction was nominated for an Oppenheimer Award and New York Newsday called it "the most impressive debut of a new American playwright."

Backstage West said, "In its superbly performed, well-directed debut as a professional Equity company, The Studio Theatre's production of THE SUGAR BEAN SISTERS...provides an oasis from the real world, keeping us laughing and entertained in the face of grim realities."

Faye (Nancy Madden) and Wille Mae (Chris Hille) in Nathan Sanders comedy The Sugar Bean Sisters.

Our current production, the Tony-nominated musical PUMP BOYS & DINETTES, continues our tradition of serving laughter and entertainment. Somewhere off Highway 57, stands a gas station on one side of the road run by four guys who provide service with a smile and a song. On the other side of the road is the Double Cupp Diner, where fun is always on the menu. The show is full of such memorable songs as "Farmer Tan," "The Night Dolly Parton Was Almost Mine," and "Drinkin' Shoes." The Chicago Sun-Times called the show "a sweet, cherry Coke entertainment...just right for summertime consumption."

Dinettes Rhetta (Andrea Eve Thorpe) and Prudie (Michele Hillen) fall for L.M.'s (Howard Gray) farmer tan in Pump Boys & Dinettes.

PUMP BOYS & DINETTES plays Thursday - Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm through October 8th. Tickets are $22 - $24, with student, senior and group discounts available. We're also offering a per car discount to audience members travelling more than 15 miles roundtrip to see the show. For more information, call the Box Office at (916) 446-2668 or visit us online at www.thestudiotheatre.net.

Jim (Dave Atkinson), Eddie (Zack Sapunor) and Jackson (Michael LaPlante) hang at The Double Cupp Diner in Pump Boys & Dinettes.
