The Lambda Players

Raylynn Hosts a Christmas Cabaret

The Lambda Players, Sacramento’s alternative theatre company, is an award-winning, all-volunteer, non-profit theatre company that has been producing plays of interest to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and their friends since 1989.

With a new home in the 89-seat Studio Theatre, located at 1028 R Street, the Lambda Players are coming off of a widely successful run of Angels in America, capturing 4-star reviews by the Sacramento Bee and News & Review. To complete its 19th season, the Lambda Players will produce Burnt Fields, a southern gothic memory play written by Jimmy Cliff George and Kurt Gregory VanDover, and Jeffrey, written by Paul Rudnick and directed by Kevin Leonard (Sacramento’s own Hedwig) through the summer.

Angels in America

The Studio Theatre has housed past great performances by locally acclaimed Jackie Schultz and her troupe. Now, the Lambda Players have carried on and successfully produced Last Summer at Blue Fish Cove, Raylynn Hosts a Christmas Cabaret and Angels in America.

One Christmas Carol in Ten

Started by a small group of people who wanted to “put on a show,” the theatre company first performed in the basement of the Lambda Center and spent years being known as a “traveling” theatre company, performing in such venues as the YWCA, the Geery Theatre and the 24th Street Theatre before leasing a space and creating its own intimate theatre in 2005. In the fall of last year, the building that housed their theatre was sold and the group was forced to find its new location.

Carhops in Bondage

Some of their past productions include obscure and historical plays such as The Captive, Saint-Carmen of the Main and My Castle’s Rockin’ as well as main-stream crowd-pleasers The Ritz, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Falsettos and Sordid Lives.

The Lambda Players is excited to be a part of “Sacramento Arts fabric” and with the help of their sponsors and volunteers, enter into its 20th season in the Fall. Although the season is still in the works, they are hoping to produce Angels in America, Perestroika (Part II).
