A stunning musical about a chorus audition for a Broadway musical. It tells of the achingly poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies to land a job in the show, and is a powerful metaphor for all human aspiration. Musical numbers include “I Can Do That,” “At the Ballet,” “Dance: Ten; Looks: Three,” and “What I Did for Love.” A brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama, this show was instantly recognized as a classic.

“...THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF AMERICA interprets the past as a breathlessly paced sequence of silly vaudeville sketches, word-association games, puns and crude parodies of movie and television genres. Nothing is sacred, and many of the facts have been skewed to suggest the paranoid ravings of a particularly loony tabloid....”

One of the Festival's most popular musical comedies returns this summer with its "irreverent, fast moving, campy air of burlesque" (Sacramento Bee). "Forum" is a hilarious Roman romp about Pseudolus, a rougish slave to a Roman family, who schemes to become free by helping his young master find a beautiful girl. Pratfalls, puns, mistaken identities and high-level vaudevillian farce abound! (Think the TV mini series "Rome" with whoopee cushions and seltzer water!). Featuring Jeff Labowitch, Dan Slauson, Joe Hart, Amanda Valli, Rashad Jahi, Cindy Davis, Ray Keller and Joe Wilkinson.
Lovely outdoor setting with comfortable bench seating. Plenitiful refreshments available. Free parking on street or in nearby lots. Opening Night Gala.

LEGENDS!, a comedy by Tony Award-winning author, James Kirkwood (A Chorus Line), centers on two somewhat desperate and waning movie stars named Sylvia and Leatrice. Both actresses are courted by an unscrupulous young producer to star together in a Broadway show, despite the fact that they have hated each other for decades. He convinces both ladies to go along by misleading them into believing that they will be starring in the show with Paul Newman. This hilarious set-up provides the background for the full-blown comic confrontation between these two divas and the surprising and hilarious resolution.
Recommended for mature teens and adults.

Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.” Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head.

Sappho In Love is a riotous romp across the slippery terrain of Lesbian romance, as the goddesses on Olympus come down to earth to recruit among Sappho and her followers.
Artemis, the Goddess of Lesbian Celibacy, and Hera, the Goddess of Coupledom, join forces to challenge Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, for her hegemony on Lesbos. Sappho, the great poet and teacher on the island, is a devotee of Aphrodite, and because of this, her school has become a center for the cult of lesbian sexuality and romantic love. Artemis, denouncing Aphrodite's use of her intoxicating nectar to attract followers, vows to found a rival school on Lesbos where young girls will be weaned away from Sappho's decadent teachings to learn the more sober arts of wilderness survival.
But Artemis underestimates the power of lesbian seduction, when Aphrodite sends Persuasion, her handmaiden, to enroll in outdoor school - and when the Goddess of Celibacy finds herself entangled with the Slave of Desire, she discovers that freedom without intimacy can be as meaningless as intimacy without freedom.

“Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd … he shaved the faces of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard of again …” The Tony Award-winning best musical of 1979 makes its Sacramento professional premiere! The chilling, heart-pounding musical thriller of barber-ism and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly imprisoned barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge on the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his wife. His quest to avenge his wrongs expands to include his unfortunate customers, and soon the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs has droves lining up for her"secret ingredient" meat pies! “Sweeney Todd” boasts Stephen Sondheim's grandest, most beautiful and ingeniously crafted score.

This gag filled comedy by the authors of “Norman, Is That You?” and “Murder at the Howard Johnson” is about a couple who run a diner near Las Vegas. This diner is a guaranteed winner - it’s shaped like a hamburger!!! How can it lose, right? Right.... Spanning the decades and stopping in 1940, 1958 and 1981, you’ll enjoy the humor (and decay) of this American Dream.

Featuring classics from the 60s including "He's a Rebel," "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," "Hey There Lonely Boy," "I Will Follow Him," and other hits!
Four girlfriends gather to celebrate the upcoming wedding of one of their own. As the drinking gets underway, loose lips begin sharing about their love lives as well as Millie's upcoming nuptials. Sally brings out a magic eight ball to liven up the party, which brings to light the the fact that Millie's dreamy fiance is nowhere to be found. Millie swears she'll find him and bring him back – her dreams of the perfect wedding won't be dashed because of something silly like a missing groom!
Act Two: Six months pass and the girls gather once again to celebrate Dee Dee's engagement. Dee Dee's boyfriend is probably as bubble-headed as she; Flo is desperately in love with a co-worker who doesn't even know she exists; and Sally keeps loving and losing faster than anyone can keep count. Throughout it all, Sally, Millie, Florence and Dee Dee come to understand that in the midst of highs and lows, true friendship is always there to fall back on.
