Garbeau’s Dinner Theater Food Review May 2005

I recently received an invitation to Garbeau’s Dinner Theater, which is located in Nimbus Winery, at the intersection of Folsom Blvd. and Hazel Avenue, just south of Highway 50 in Rancho Cordova. The invitation was not so much for the play, which was delightful and very professionally done, but to try the food, about which they are very excited. I was delighted too, so I thought I would take a good bit of space to tell you about it.
Dinner Theater food is not always wonderful, I know. But Garbeau’s has recently worked very hard to make theirs excellent. I tried several things and loved both the food and the way it was presented. Then I took the time to casually ask several people around me about their dinner. They all said they really enjoyed their meal and a couple even mentioned that they have become regular customers because of both the quality of the food and the performances.
Dinner and the performance are included in one price, which varies from $35 to $43 (there is also a show only ticket for $16, or $8 with student ID). Included in the price is a wide selection of entrees from which to choose.
The menu changes about four times a year, to take advantage of what is fresh, and the chef, Jesse Plasencia, does an outstanding job of preparing the food. The present menu includes delicious entrees such as: Braised Lamb Shank, Risotto Primavera, Chicken Breast, A grilled Atlantic Salmon fillet, Blanquette of Veal, and Pork Loin Pot Roast. If you wish, for additional cost you can also get a Grilled Rib-eye Steak, the daily Fish Special or Frenched Rack of Lamb.
All entrees include warm sourdough bread and butter, and mixed green salad with choice of dressing: blue cheese, ranch, or red wine vinaigrette with fresh herbs. Appetizers, dessert and beverages are additional. If you like wine with your meal, their staff has done a great job of pairing wine with the food, both to complement and contrast each dish, and have the recommended choices listed with each entree. And, they have a lot of our local wines available by the glass and their bottle prices are quite reasonable.
